The Wine

A delicious wood-matured Muscat, part of our 125 Years Special release range. The 125 Years Special Release Muscat represents the first generation to plant grapes and make wine at Brown Brothers. John Francis Brown, an 18 year old at the time, decided to lease part of his father-in-law’s property to plant a 10ha vineyard. He made the first wines in the old Canadian-style barn on the MiIawa property and guided the company through the first World War, phylloxera and the Great Depression. He was way ahead of his time, making as well as fortified wines a range of table wines. His passion for innovation still drives the company today.

The Grape Variety

Once fortification had taken place and fermentation was completed, the wine spent varying amounts of time in older large wood barrels and various small wood barrels. The aging in old barrels adds to complexity and concentrating. The older barrels concentrate due to losses through evaporation. It was bottled with an alcohol of 16.5%, a pH of 3.70, an acid level of 5.6 g/L.
